I am wondering how you compare between Mill Hill East v.s. Whetstone. We have two kids, one in reception year while another in nursery, and looking for an area with good schools for the family, accessible to grocery stores, nice security in neighbourhood.

A little bit more background is I am going to place offers to

  1. Apartment on the Ridgeway in Mill Hill East
  2. House in Whetstone

It is uncertain to us which may bring a better value in the long run.

TIA!

I'd go for Whetstone. I used to live in Oakleigh Park and it's a nice, if quiet, area. We are trying to sell our flat at the moment and it's not happening, and the houses close by have appreciated much faster.

Plus I think trains more frequent to High Barnet than Mill Hill East.

Whetstone.

The area has exploded in popularity recently with lots of restaurants (La Lluna from Muswell Hill opened recently, an organic vegan place, plus many more) and the transport is great via buses, Northern Line or direct to Moorgate via train. The range of schools is good.

The only downside is that often parts of East Barnet or Arnos Grove get called Whetstone when clearly not, so watch out for that.

The Mill Hill Ridgeway is really nice but some distance from the Broadway and not near many pubs. The Adam and Eve is hit and miss.. There has also been an explosion in building in recent years so resell could be tricky and you'd have to ask if they will hold their value.

Wherever you go, I'd advise a house over a flat.
