My family are planning to relocate to BS, we are with two young kids below ten. How’s the surrounding areas? Looking for advices among Dunmow Rd, Thorley Park and Bishop Park. And welcome to explore any other areas.

Thanks much xx

I know BS! Let’s see.

Thorley Park is basically a purpose built housing estate. Not sure when it was built - I’d guess maybe 1970s-1990s depending on which bit. There’s a Sainsbury’s in the middle of it which is handy. The east side is maybe 15-20 minutes walk to the station and served by an infrequent bus (but very cyclable). It’s a nice quiet family area. The houses we viewed there were nice enough but quite small rooms. It could take up to half an hour each way to walk into town.

Bishops Park I don’t know at all.

Both Bishops Park and Thorley Park have good access to green space.

Dunmow Road is the main road out of town towards the motorway. I would not live on it if you paid me. I would consider living off it on the right road. Some of the roads will be very convenient for Hockerill School and Herts & Essex schools. This side of town is older properties, more spacious. Very walkable to the centre of town. You’ll probably want a car wherever you live but some parts of town are more walkable than others.

What kind of property are you interested in, and how important is walking vs driving? Will you commute via the station and how frequently if so?
