We live a mile away in the same town.
We have just sold MILs bungalow. It was all done through the estate agent.
She came up from Cornwall and viewed on a Friday in September.
Last minute viewing and that was the only time she did.
Didn't want a survey. As wanted a quick turnaround.
Solicitors started proceedings on the Monday.
Exchanged last week.
She picked up the keys from the EA.

All we know is her name and she knows ours.
But didn't want to meet us.

I must admit it was the most stressless house sale we have ever had.
And we have moved 5 times.

I've never met the buyer. The estate agents did the viewings. Not unusual in my experience.
Sorry it's been so stressful for you.

Doh! Stress less!
I'm glad it's been so stressless for you! 😂

We never met our buyers though they have got to know our old neighbours that we are friendly with as I have accidentally sent 3 parcels there in 3 years.
We had moved out so they saw it empty.

We didn’t meet the sellers when we bought our house. First time buyers. Estate agent showed us round. Solicitors dealt with everything. We arranged the surveyor and the surveyor contacted the estate agent to organise a time. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t go through the professionals for communication and meeting the sellers/buyers therefore isn’t necessary.

I've sold several houses and never met a buyer. Estate agent did viewings. Solicitor handled the rest.

I've met buyers twice and I think there's a correlation between it and how easy your sale is going to be by the sounds of it.

The first buyers came armed with a massive list of questions from "who is the electricity supplier" (I thought they meant who we used which I told them but then made the mistake of saying but obvs you can switch if you want at which point I then had to explain how electricity supply worked) to whether there was a valve in the mains drains that stopped water coming back up to the drains in the house (they seemed confused about why I wouldn't know). After 2 hours face to face the questions kept coming throughout the long and painful sale.

The second time they wanted to talk about what furniture we'd be prepared to sell with the house as they were first time buyers, was generally a much easier sale and a much more pleasant conversation.

our seller lives about four streets from us and we went through the estate agents house was empty and apart from her name and address we didnt meet her , the other house we were interested in we did meet the seller when we did a second viewing and she just totally messed us around so overall not meeting the seller worked out better for us

Comedycook · 15/10/2021 11:46

Why on earth would she want to meet you? Confused

I've never met any buyer and I've sold about 20 properties if not more. I've met a couple of sellers only as they've shown me the house.
It's a business transaction I pay the solicitor and EA to deal with them.

We've sold eight properties and met the buyer every time except when it was my parents' house we were selling and we lived 1.5 hrs away.

Even when the estate agent did the viewings (not every property), the buyers asked to meet with me/us after their initial viewing on a few occasions.

We didn't have any issues with this, although on one sale - where we handled the viewings ourselves as the EAs didn't offer that service - the buyers did become a bit of a pain in the arse as we'd naively exchanged contact details so they kept texting with loads of unnecessary queries (such as where we'd bought certain items of furniture 🙄).

Otoh, there have been a handful of times where we've not met the seller, because the property was vacant....for example our current house which was a repossession 😉

We didn't meet our sellers. Just met our buyers in passing as they were outside waiting for the EA to do the viewing and we were leaving the house so it was free for them to look around.

Most of the communication was through the solicitors and EA.
