What colour to paint bedroom ???

So we've ordered a new set of bedroom furniture (desperately need a new bed with a firm mattress as our old bed had broken slats and we both have bad backs). We've ordered a bed and bedside tables from this range with Chiltern Oak:

www.chilternoakfurniture.co.uk/collections/salisbury-blue-painted-oak-collection

I wanted the Rutland Blue range but the bed is out of stock until towards the end of the year and the back issue is getting desperate now so this was a good alternative. Some pictures the furniture looks quite grey but I'm thinking(hoping) it's more a very dark navy.

But what colour to paint the bedroom ?? At the moment it's a horrible dirty magnolia (we've been here 16 years and this is the only room we've never got around to and it was a new build then). We are getting new very pale grey carpet fitted soon. Husband likes a pale pink idea, I'm not against it but am struggling to find a good one. Bedroom is at the front of the house, garden is South West so bedroom has all the sun is in the morning. Have tried the Farrow & Ball pinks and they're just too mauve/purple. I quite like the Dulux Heritage Powder, it's a very pale off white pink, do people think that would go with the dark furniture and pale grey carpet?

I think that would look perfect op.
Also have a look at F and B Calamine

Verbena87 · 26/09/2021 08:32

Oh that colour is gorgeous! Go for it (and I might in our bedroom too)

Bluesheep8 · 26/09/2021 09:58

Yep I've added it to my list of possible pinks too! Thanks OP

I'd do the walls mustard! But I like bold colours :)

Thanks for good feedback, I now have a problem! Paint is online order only and they can't tell me if any is in stock until I pay for it and then they check 😫 So I got some more testers 😂

My dilemma now is will this be too dark when room is done on a gloomy day? We are very fond of lamps in our house though so I'm thinking could look warm and cosy rather than dark? 🤷‍♀️ this is Farrow & Ball Calamine

Which is which OP?

How much are you in that room during the day? I spend more time in my bedroom in the evenings so am less fussed about the daytime atmosphere. You might want to see your paints in artificial light with the blinds down to get a sense of how it looks at night.

Am guessing the colour on the left by the door frame is Calamine? Looks lovely. I'd paint it on the woodwork as well (and the ceiling!)

Hi @MiniCooperLover I’ve got a light grey carpet and have recently painted my bedroom a F&B very light pink called Great White. It looks greyer in the evening.

We’re in the process of doing up our house and have ordered paint directly from F&B three times now and it’s always arrived within 48 hours, don’t know if that might be an option as stockists will often have to order it from F&B for you so you could be waiting longer.I’ve attached a picture anyway

Beautiful bedroom @SollaSollew

That's a good shout actually, OP, if you don't want to paint all your surfaces the same colour, Great White is F&B's recommend white for Calamine so you could use that in your woodwork and ceiling.

I love that bed - it's fab.

I'm about to paint our bedroom in Lick paint Pink 01 which is very similar to the Dulux colour. Have you looked at their website?

ShowOfHands · 27/09/2021 12:25

I came on to say that if you look at Rightmove or any magazine from the past 5yrs, all bedrooms are painted grey with pink accessories or painted pink with grey accessories. Sometimes there's a bold bid for navy alongside. I am starting to think a law has been passed and nobody told me Grin

I have a room with navy furniture and it's painted in a paint shade called papaya playa which probably couldn't be further from what you want.

BlueMongoose · 27/09/2021 16:38

Lots of pinks look very blue, especially if the room gets north light.
I tend to edge towards peachy colours when that's the case.
In our hallway, lit by severe North light, I had to use a really peachy colour to get a the effect of a dusky pink.

dotdotdotdash · 27/09/2021 17:20

Love a colour thread! I agree with @BlueMongoose, go for a warmer peachy shade if it doesn’t get strong light in that room. F&B have a new one called Faded Terracotta. Would look good with navy, grey and lemon yellow accessories!

WellTidy · 27/09/2021 17:39

F&B elephants breath can have a pink tinge to it. It is a lovely neutral but it definitely has a pink tint in our really dark dining room.

MiniCooperLover · 09/10/2021 17:11

So in the end I went for F&B Calamine ... painted it today. In pictures it looks like the plaster colour but it's quite chalky pink in real life, I'd have liked it slightly 'less' pink but I can live with it (specially as I really don't want to do it again). Please ignore manky 17 year old carpet in the picture, we've ordered a pale grey/mink carpet to replace it.
