How bad for your heating costs is old double glazing?

My house has old double glazing that doesn't fit well with draughts through the windows. With heating costs rising, I'm wondering whether it would be worth the investment of replacing the windows to help keep the house warm. I expect to live here for at least another 12 years so I assume I will need to replace the windows at some point in that timeframe. Would it be better to do it sooner rather than later?
