Hi
Anyone who has had a fence fitted recently, can I ask what you paid?

We're getting
12 panels - large 6 foot, will be 5 feet with a trellis
Gate
Cemented in and hand made panels (fitted makes his own from timber, vertical)

What is a price you'd expect?
Thanks 😊

We’re having 7 or 8 panels done at the moment but it is being made to measure because it is a wonky, awkward space. Costing just over £2k.

12 panels, concrete posts and gravel boards, £2,500

How much have you been quoted?

OneEpisode · 20/09/2021 22:28

We paid two tradesmen similar to Five. Less, but Midlands. Our price included digging out the old concrete and removing the old fence/skip hire. Digging the new holes was tricky (tree roots etc). Concrete posts set in concrete. We weren’t keen on cemented in wooden posts.
We were pleased. We did the easy side of the garden ourselves.

We paid £1200 last year for that but it was before wood prices shot up.

We're having seventeen feathered edge panels (one side and across the back) and a new gate, posts and gravel boards are in good condition so don't need replacing we've had quotes ranging from £1250 (our gardener and this includes us ordering all of the materials, he will fit and dispose of old ones) and £2750 from someone who clearly doesn't want the job, and everything in between. We're going with our gardener, partly because he was at the cheaper end, although we had others similar, but he's happy to do some work on overhanging neighbour trees to make it easier, and I know his work slows down going into winter. He's nice and trustworthy. Didn't even think to ask him, he heard me talking about a quote to my husband and offered to do it.

£1600 - I've seen his work before (he does a friends rental Houses) - from your comments on costs I think it sounds right, and a bit of a bargain perhaps.
I've asked because our neighbour kept on about getting it done (no indication as to whole fence it is on plans so we'd decided to split it) and kept letting us down, it's been a year since we spoke of fences and he's 'arranged' Something and it's fallen through. He's the kind of person to say 'that's so expensive, you've been ripped off' he's already told me he's not paying if he doesn't organise it as he 'can't be sure it's decent work' so checking it seems reasonable
Thank you all 👍😎

We've just had 12 posts concreted in, and the original fence boards and rails re-fixed as they were in perfect nick but the original posts were wrongly specified and put in so had rotted at the base. It cost £990 for supply and labour.

custardbear · 21/09/2021 11:07

Thanks Wonky - we need all new panels, posts etc ... everything new.

I’m nearing the end of my fence job, it’s been alot more work than I thought. Went for metal posts and making slatted panels myself. Because it’s on a slope it’s been more work. Cost for all the materials will probably be about £1500 including wood, posts, block paving kerbs , ballast, cement the stain, paint and stainless steel fixings all add up.

Not sure how much the gate will be as we are having one made but probably over 4 figures 🙄.

Done all the work ourselves so no labour , but with all the hours put in it I’ve no idea how much it would have been paying someone to do it.

We've had wrought iron estate style fencing along our boundary fitted for £880! I assume yours are wood?!

custardbear · 22/09/2021 20:42

Yes wood, he'll hand make it all and the gate too.
