IKEA appliances- anyone have them?

I’m planning a new kitchen for my rental property, a student flat. Just been to IKEA to spend time with the kitchen planner and she included their fridge freezer, gas cooker, extractor fan and electric oven in the final price. Are these reasonable quality ( bearing in mind they are likely to get heavy use) or would I be better off going for a mid range brand like Indesit? Thanks for any insight and advice.

They are made by whirlpool. Which owns Indesit. So effectively the same.

That said we had a house fire thanks to a dodgy Indesit drier and whirlpool/Indesit couldn't care less so for that reason I would NEVER buy another appliance made by them.

Oh gosh. I know Whirlpool really had an issue with some appliances. I have an Indesit tumble dryer ( which is same model that caused a fire in a high rise- not Grenfell) and whirlpool came out and modified it for me. Still, that is definitely a consideration.

Yes we had them installed when our kitchen was redone summer 2008, so that's now 13 years ago. They were "Ikea by Whirlpool" appliances: Oven&hob, extractor and dishwasher and they've held up well. The dishwasher broke and was replaced about 2 or 3 years ago now, one of the oven functions stopped working this summer but it's still perfectly useable, and the hob burners (gas) were showing their age so I replaced them with generic ones now.
Overall very pleased with their functionality and performance but I suppose I can't really comment on their current range...
Our fridge/freezer has always been a freestanding one by other brands so can't comment on that at all.

I think the higher priced hobs and ovens are Electrolux. Which make AEG and I'm fairly sure (by comparing functions etc) John Lewis. Top price hob and o

The two top end dishwashers are Bosch. Two benefits of buying these from Ikea are 1... extra warranty (5years) and 2... because the ikea door heights are not standard UK sizes, you have to be able to make an ikea door slide up and down on a non Ikea dishwasher.

I am a massive over thinker, did a huge amount of research (even downloading and comparing instruction manuals), am VERY fussy about appliances and opted to buy 2 ovens, 2 dishwashers and a hob from Ikea with my kitchen. In each case I've bought their most expensive, so not cheap but good value compared to what I'm sure are the same models elsewhere but with different badges.

I concluded that their fridge freezers were over priced.

I haven't installed any of them yet though so only time will tell if this has been a horribly expensive mistake.

I had an IKEA gas hob and electric oven in my old flat. The hob was absolutely fine. The fucking oven took 27 minutes to get up to 180 degrees. I don't know if it was just my one or that model but I wouldn't go near one again. Are they covered in any which reports or similar?

CaptainMarvelous · 10/09/2021 20:09

My IKEA oven door exploded... So there's that.

Hmmmm mixed reviews then.

Some of their stuff is which best buy.
I've gone through for the which best buy induction hob because it's cheap and we are not used to induction... We can upgrade or change if we don't like it.

However I was going to get the best buy cooker hood and reviews on ikea said people have had issues with it, Csnt get parts replaced and knobs come off.

Than you autumn. I guess the thing is to check reviews and shop around, which adds to the work but probably best in long run. Their fridge freezer isn’t frost free I notice, which is definitely an issue in a rental as it risks messing up the flooring if defrosted carelessly ( been there done that with the towels and mop). So I’ll buy one based on Which reviews.
