Where to live in/around Manchester?

Seriously considering relocation to Manchester next spring. Where would be a good area to live within a 30 min drive from Leigh/Warrington? Looking for a family home and good state primaries. Besides Didsbury, what are the 'sought after' areas of Manchester? Thanks in advance.

We live in Trafford where we still have the 11+ if you like that sort of thing. Some very good primaries round here.

you could try sale? some nice parts, good transport links to Manchester/Warrington. They've built on a lot of the green areas though which is a shame.
Where we live is nice and the schools are great,but probably not 30mins from warrington! (between Stockport and macclesfield)
parts of Altrincham are nice but some vv expensive, depends on your budget!

Budget is £500K but it's not an issue for at least 6-12mths since we intend to rent initially but I would like to rent in/near an area that we are most likely going to buy in since DS starts school this Sept.

Wilmslow is nice, possibly Cheadle? Alderley edge/prestbury lovely but VVV expensive. Hale and Altrincham are nice too.
