Removal men tip. How much?

We are finally moving house on 14th September. Yesterday after many failed attempts I managed to book removal men in, a proper family run business, not a man in van. I’m paying £400 for the first four hours, then £75 per hour after that. We really only need them to move our furniture since we’re in a rental until the end of the week and can move boxes/smaller items in our own time in the car. Does this seem a reasonable price? We’re in the West Midlands. I had another quote for £1,100 yesterday, so a big difference!

I’m definitely going to be tipping them, unless something major goes wrong! What is the going rate for tipping removal men? I was thinking £20 each. Thank you!

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I didn’t think about food, maybe I should get some snacks in!

Regrading the price they quoted me, I think it was very reasonable. We’re only moving 3 miles down the road. I will ask them to take our larger items and furniture first. We could always move the rest later ourselves. I was very fortunate to get them booked as nearly all local removals are fully booked for September.

I’ll have a cash tip ready and see how it goes on the day!

We tipped the 5 of them £20 each (10 years ago). They were packing too, and I’d read on here that a good idea is to tip them before they start. Sounded strange, but it worked like a dream for us - they gave us perfect service.

Sorry but I'd be very wary of this.
How many hours at £75 are you going to be paying?

She could use them all day and still not pay as much as her other quote.*

Yes but what if it's not all done in a day? It can and does happen.

Tipped 4 guys £20 each (this was in 2006)
Bacon rolls then bought fish & chips for lunch. DH got them 4 pack lager each when they left. They did a great job, Always use removals false economy to DIY if you can afford to.

Have they been to accurately assess the amount of stuff to be moved and checked access to both properties before quoting?
