Washing machine sounds like an aircraft taking off!

I have a 5 year old Bosch W/M that gets used at least once a day. It has been a great machine so far. Recently it has started to get louder and louder when spinning at the end of the cycle. It’s now so loud that I have to leave the room when it’s spinning. I ran the spin with nothing in it and there was a slight rumble but nothing compared to the racket it makes with a load of clothes in.

Does this sound like the bearings have gone? I can get replacement bearings for £40 but is it likely that if this part has worn out the rest will follow shortly?

As it still washes well and has been reliable until now I’d prefer to repair it if it’s worthwhile. Thanks.

It does sound similar to the symptoms when the bearings failed on my old machine. If you can get replacement bearings for £40 I'd go for it. I can't see why the rest of the machine should fail just because the bearings go.

yes thats the bearings...soon it will be an awful grinding noise so change them fast !!..my bosch is now 16 years old and no issues.

Another yes to it being the bearings.

I came on here to say bearings too! Not that I have any idea what that means 🙄

£40 is a bargain. A washer should last much more than five years so I'd definitely do it

CausingChaos2 · 31/08/2021 12:03

Thanks all. I have stopped using it and will get the bearings ordered.

Sounds like this is an area where Bosch beats cheaper brand. When the bearings went on our inherited Indesit replacent bearings couldn't be obtained separately and it needed a "drum assembly" which seemed to be not far short of a whole washing machine with the case removed!

I'd rather that than the plane I was on some years ago that sounded like a washing machine spinning a bag of cutlery!
