Buyer wants to exchange

This Friday. Yes, two days time. And this has come totally out of the blue.

I'm in the middle of a chain and we aren't finished yet.

WTF?! I think there's been some communication error somewhere along the line surely. I've got the solicitor and agent onto it to find out what's going on but honestly this is just out of the blue.

Anyone else had such a random thing happen?

Yes, by a pain the backside seller. They knew our required and agreed completion date, and called three weeks before saying they wanted to complete the following Monday. We refused, said they knew our required date and we were sticking to it.
The sellers solicitors didn't complete on the agreed date because the fuckers then said they didn't know it was that particular date that was pencilled in and the seller hadn't completed the required paperwork. We had to wait until the following day to get our keys, and the woman left the house filthy. I was fuming.

I went from ‘last search hasn’t come back’ at 10am to ‘ready to exchange’ at 2pm the same day. But that was fine (we exchanged and completed three days later).
As you are in a chain everyone has to agree. Not sure what the agent has to do with it - your solicitor needs to sort the dates.

You don't have to agree you know.... and depending on your position you don't have to wait for everyone else in the chain either - you might be happy to rent or stay with relatives for example.

Well no I'm not agreeing to it, I'm just a bit wtf at the fact they want to exchange in two days time knowing there is a chain and not even asking if I'm willing to break the chain (I'm not) just saying want to exchange Friday.

I've asked the agent to find out because they have been pretty good at keeping things flowing along. Otherwise my solicitor has to deal with my buyer's solicitors who have been pretty slow with things. I hope there has just been some crossed wire somewhere...

@ChippyDucks150 that sounds outrageous! I'd be fuming too!

Exchange has no impact on you though if everyone is ready. Completion would be a different issue

StormyTeacups · 04/08/2021 20:23

I would happily exchange on the proviso that completion ties in with your onward purchase, if you don't want to break the chain.
