We've found a well in our garden

What do we do? It's been covered over with a manhole cover.

I know you can get swanky glass but it's super expensive and if actually like to be able to use the water either to water the garden or maybe flush the loos?

No clue what I'm doing!

Is there water in it, does the manhole cover have a name on it like the water company or could chil. I would contact your water company, you need to know where the water source is.

We had one in our last house. We got a pump fitted attached to an outside tap and used it to water the garden. It smelt a bit so I wouldn’t have used it in the house even just to flush toilets.

We had it done as part of a big renovation so the builder organised it.

There's definitely water in it.

See if the Environment Agency or the environmental health department at your local council will test it.

Would it not be a danger, uncovered? I know nothing about Wells but to use it, would you not have to open it up?

Are you sure it's not part of the water system? We have a manhole in our garden that when you lift it up uncovers an open drainage pipe of some sort.

But if it's a well, maybe give a local borehole company a ring & ask them about what system you could set up? My neighbour has a well in their cellar which they have a pump for so they can water the garden with it.

Are you on Instagram? Sympathetic_restoration and Worcesterlodge both found wells in their gardens, they might be able to offer some advice.
