hi, we are due to complete on our new house at the beginning of march.

i'm starting to feel a bit panicky about the magnitude of the task ahead of us, even though its a way off.

trouble is, we've been here 14 years, have had our children here, and have accumulated a huge amount of clutter. we have a large house with a large loft that is FULL of junk. not to mention the shed...

you get the picture. am staring to feel overwhelmed by the thought of it all. my head spins at night with thoughts of all the jobs we have to do.

any tips for making it a bit easier/ less stressful? we have a 3yo and 5yo, btw, so its hard to get things done at the best of times.

how far ahead of time should we pack?? we are off skiing 2 weeks before we complete. great timing...

sorry, am rambling in my state of panic.

advice please xx

I find it helps me to start asap...I have to feel it is not totally insurmountable and doing a few things helps me feel I'm on top of it.

Records, ornaments, easy stuff you won't need and might be best staying in boxes anyway I then unpack it all at a later date. Usually. Have been known to actually move.

Can you call and kick up a fuss because they didn't tell you it was available again? It's so annoying when people do that!!
We're trying to live by the rule that if it's in a box and we can't really be bothered to unpack it we don't need it so get rid of it!! That way we might not fill our new house to the brim quite as quickly as this one.

I am obviously on a mission to use as many exclamation marks as I can before 9am
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's a few more

Columbia · 27/11/2007 11:55

I love them too, probably unhealthily so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Stealth it looks like it wouldn't have made a difference. I called this morning, and she 'apologised' for not ringing yesterday...looks like the other people have decided they can pay, get this, 6 months in advamce, CASH... which obviously puts them at an advantage...'nothing I can really do about it' shwe said, well yes but I have a feeling she had to come up with something pretty staggering in order to justify not letting it to me

Playing us off it would seem...so what can you offer that will knock the spots of the others?

I told her I would try to win the lottery and offer 12 months in advance.

I am pretty upset with the benefits fascism re rented properties. can you tell?

Next time, eh...

Columbia · 27/11/2007 11:58

...off to do some unpacking...

Good luck with your move though I shall vicariously enjoy it!!!!

StealthPolarBear · 27/11/2007 15:01

Sorry to hear that, sounds like you have been messed around!
Ours is not definite either, apparently the other solicitors are saying they can't guarantee that funds will be released in time.
If it falls through we will be living here with all our belongings packed up.
Well, off to chase the estate agents

Columbia · 27/11/2007 16:13

aw no! That's awful! Let us know how you get on, keeping everything crossed for you! Can they really do that at such short notice??

noonar · 27/11/2007 20:04

hi.sorry for the delay in returning to the thread. tahnks for your advice. very practical and useful, everyone.

so sorry to hear about the house, columbia.

am feeling a bit less stressed today, as the structural survey on our current house, arranged by our buyers, went ok. phew.

monday will bring another survey, for the finance on our new place. it feels like a hurdles race, tbh. will be surprised if we exchange before xmas.
