Curtain / Blind question

We have glass sliding doors that take up the whole of one wall in our back reception room, and open out on to garden. We will soon be decorating the room and are wondering what on earth to put up on the windows - curtains or blinds, and what type? The room isn't that light, surprisingly, so not sure about heavy, dark curtains or anything like that. But think those light, floaty curtains can look a bit tatty (plus the room is going to have quite a warm, autumnal colour scheme). Also, needs to be child-safe - so not sure about blinds with cords hanging down (although had originally thought those vertical blinds might be good?). Help!

Thanks xx

How about those vertical blinds that are panels? Not those horrid office-type ones...
