Bedroom design, help needed! I lack an eye for interior design...

Ok! So I have a vague gist of what I want in my head but I'm awful at picturing things, I need help please

I've bought this bed, which is blue. I want to paint the wall directly behind the wall green, but not a bright green! A rich green but maybe grey ish tinted? Has anyone got any suggestions?

I want bedside tables either side, I was thinking rattan, either all wood or with black mixed in too? I have 3 large picture frames to be hung on that wall too, black frames but no clue on artwork

No clue on light shade. I also want a throw and cushions and can't think of a colour scheme for them.

Can anyone inspire me? I'm desperate 🤣

Hello!

I'm not an interior designer, only an enthusiast, so take my opinions with a pinch of salt. As that bed is such a rich shade of blue, I think a green wall could either go really well or really badly! I think a grey-green sounds nice or you could try a bluey green or a minty green... something fairly pale, anyway.

In terms of throws and accessories, opposing colours from the colour wheel look good, as they provide the right contrast. I think pink and red hues would work well with this shade of blue, but only pops of it. For wall art, I've seen some lovely Matisse prints that would look great in a trio and you could pick one or two that pick out a similar rich blue as the bed. For example...

Of course, it depends on your style and the look you're going for. I'd probably keep the bedside tables simple in a neutral colour (black, white or oak) and a plain or rattan shade would look great. It's hard finding that balance between colourful and garish. If you google "green wall and blue bed" or similar, some lovely images pop up. You might be able to copy someone else's design!

Good luck!

Personally, I think a green wall would be awful. When you buy a bed like that, you want it to be the star of the show, not the wall behind it. I would go with a neutral tone, like a greige/cream/stone whatever, and then bring the beds colour through the rest of the room with various accent pieces.

@SelfBuild Here's a photo which sort of meets your brief and I think it looks very nice.

Well done for finding that pic HP79, the colour of the wall looks perfect with navy bed

SelfBuild · 14/07/2021 10:22

Thank you all! I do love that picture @HP79 !

I initially didn't like your suggestion of red, I thought it would be a bit American flag with white bedding and blue bed but I've seen this picture I quite like as well! If only I could find the cushions from it..

I like those Matisse prints too.

@SelfBuild I can't find those cushions either, but you could achieve a similar look with two feature cushions and two larger, plain (textured?) cushions behind them.

Some feature cushion suggestions:

Have a look at beetrootandblank on instagram - her sofa is a very similar colour to your bed and her living room walls are paint in F&B green smoke (I think!) and it looks fab

SelfBuild · 14/07/2021 11:46

If the large throw cushions at the back are 45x45, would the smaller cushion in front need to be significantly smaller? Or would 45x45 at the back and 43x43 in front look ok?

we have a very similar bed and have done the colouring that is in the pohoto HP79 posted with the pale aqua wall.

HP79 · 14/07/2021 13:51

@bravotango Thanks for mentioning beetrootandblack... what a stunning house and some great inspiration there! I prefer the F&B Green Smoke with the blue furniture as opposed to the minty green in the photo I posted above.

@SelfBuild Re: cushion sizes... I would think you need 5-10cm difference between the sizes if you want to make it clear that the larger ones are larger.

bravotango · 14/07/2021 13:52

@HP79 - she has a gorgeous house doesn't she! Lots of inspiration indeed.

SelfBuild · 14/07/2021 13:58

Ooh serious inspo there thank you!! Her house is gorgeous.
