Disgusting window problem... Please help!

Hi all,

I have an awning window (the type that opens from the bottom and tilts outward with a hinge on the top) in my sitting room, and a seagull has just made a horrendous mess all down it!

I'm on the 4th floor so can't clean it from the outside.

It only opens around 6" outward from the bottom so there's no way of reaching out with a pole or even a cloth to clean it.

Does anyone know any way of solving this?

The window cleaners have just been and aren't coming back for 3 months so I will be looking at it all summer otherwise!

It has been raining heavily here all day and that hasn't made a dent on the problem.

Get a magnetic window cleaner as PP suggested - you only need to open it enough to be able to reach round and put it together. (I have one and they do work, but there is a bit of a knack.)
Make sure you use the string though, and it would be good to practice on an easier window first.

Are you friends with whoever is on the 5th floor?? Assuming there is someone above you

Tambourinetunes · 12/07/2021 20:34

Can any neighbours directly above throw a bucket of soapy water on it to loosen it up?

Show us a pic of the poo otherwise we can’t help Grin

A word of caution, in my experience the seagull will be watching, and will try and have another 'go' while you are trying to clean the window.
They're mean like that...

I think you might have to wait for the rain to wash it away basically.

Haha I know, three photos of the window and not one of the ginormous poo!

I feel your pain - we recently had the window cleaner round, and he sluiced off a massive seagull stain, only for a smaller one to appear a couple of days later.

Slightly left field suggestion, but do you know anyone quite slim, and could you tempt them round for a cup of tea and a chat?

You'd be surprised by how flexible and slim some people are - my best friend is bright, fun, loving, interesting, erudite, adventurous, loyal, gracious, forgiving - and an absolute godsend when you've got a small crack/big window situation.

Could you absail from the roof clutching a wet chamois leather in your teeth?

Only joking OP - please do not do this!Blush

Thanks to all for the further input!

The window pivots right at the top. There's no useable gap at the top when it's opened, unfortunately (see photo 1).

The windows above are also mine and don't open at all.

I will watch out for the marauding seagull. I have heard of them swooping on people in the neighbourhood. (I think I might have captured him in photo 2!)

I really hope I don't have to wait for the rain!

There's no way even a tiny person could fit through the gap.

@mineofuselessinformation Which magnetic cleaner do you have (and are your windows double glazed)?

Absailing isn't my thing although I might get desperate enough to try it…

burrito Bimbly hopefully the photos above are in enough detail! Grin
