Help me decide - sell the car and move, or keep car and stay?

Also does anyone know what we might get as a sell back price for a brand new fiesta?

My (very generous)parents bought it 5 months ago so we could use it to get Ds to school, which would be impossible from here without it (he is in reception, it's about 2 miles up the steepest hill imagineable! - and I have a new baby) but now the house I saw 6 months ago is available again, and we might well be offered it to rent.

It is much nearer his school (we could walk), and in a lovely street where he could play safely - moreso than here - but it is 15 minutes walk from Mum and Dad's, whom we rely on a lot, and here is about 2 minutes.

It is also a bit more money. But we would save on petrol I think, which is a racket at the moment as everyone knows and costs us at least £30 a month.

I am seriously tempted with the house, and Mum said if we sell back the car to the dealership, they could help me out with the deposit/rent etc.

But then we wouldn't have the car at all. I ony use it for school, the odd Dr trip and vet etc. and it's a luxury - but they will have lost money on it and I feel bad about that.

What would you do?

Move and give them the choice as to what to do with the car. They must have realised that it would devalue as soon as it came off the forecourt whether you needed it long term or not. If you feel that bad offer to pay back the difference.

A child in reception and a baby? keep the car, move later.

My local Ford dealership is selling 2007 ones for around £7000 (depending on the spec), but would obviously give you less than that. That is just a guide, and you might get more if you sold it privately.

I think prices might plummet soon though when the new model comes out.

Thankyou all, interesting stuff. I'll ring the dealership today to make sure...it's the climate zetec with alloys etc (!) which was the only one available! Thanks very much for the tip about selling privately, and the new one coming out - I didn't know that.

Never been reliant on a car which is why I would like walking again!! Life is very dull when eveything is accessible within 3 minutes of driving!
