7 weeks and still no mortgage offer?

We had a mortgage offer for a house that fell through after a bad survey.
We found another house that was 11k more expensive. We resubmitted the paperwork for the new house and still have not heard anything.
Is this normal?
Going to lose our sale/have to pay 4.5k in stamp duty

Have you tried calling them?

Dinosauraddict · 12/06/2021 01:15

Has anything else about your situation changed between the 2 applications? Are you using a broker, as if so I would expect them to be v proactively chasing this by now.

purpleme12 · 12/06/2021 09:44

Have you waited 7 weeks and done nothing to chase this?!

MrsKeats · 12/06/2021 13:56

Chased multiple times through our mortgage broker.

Our bank did warn us that their application process takes 10-12 weeks. We are at wk6/7 mark now and heard nothing yet. I call them next week to see how far we are in the process. When we were porting it took 52 working days from start to finish. We almost lost our buyers that we moved out and had an 8 day gap between our sale and purchase of new home.

The thing I don't get is that the first offer didn't take long. We are only asking for 3% more. Still way under loan to value amount. So frustrating.

Why don’t you just call them and ask?

ArosGartref · 12/06/2021 14:30

Mine was 9 days between application and offer. I would expect a clear explanation from the broker of why it is taking this long and why waiting is beneficial compared to applying with another lender.

MrsKeats · 12/06/2021 14:44

We have to go through the broker I think. Will ring him again on Monday. I know they have valued the new house so I have no idea what the hold up is now.

Wow I never knew they could take this long. Mine took just over a week too!

Drowninginwashing · 12/06/2021 18:07

Ours took 6 weeks recently..everyone is trying to get in before the stamp.dury deadline and lenders etc are overwhelmed.

FerretFumbler · 12/06/2021 18:11

I used the Halifax and had the email and phone number of the man who was dealing with our application, which was super useful and meant I could get in direct contact with them.
Pain in the arse and took over a month, but some of that was down to checking child maintenance etc.
All I can suggest is chase again.

ForkedIt · 12/06/2021 18:14

It’s an absolute joke at the moment. We were going through a broker and everything was so slow that we’ve dropped them and decided to ‘just’ port our current mortgage. We are 6 weeks out from offer and the survey on the house we are selling isn’t for another two weeks. The waiting list for everything is excruciating at the moment. I’m pregnant and this is a relocation so I just feel sick at how long everything is taking.
Basically, sympathies.
