DH removed a wasps nest, will the bastards come back?

He found a wasp nest around the size of a satsuma in the shed. Whilst I was off googling wasp removal strategies he decided to head on in, cover the best with a plastic bag and detach it. He has then destroyed the nest, still in the bag. One queen no more adult wasps.

Now that the nest and queen are gone, what will happen to any workers? Will they die, fuck off or start building another nest?

He has seen a couple hanging about outside the shed in the last hour. Not going crackers, just normal wasp-like.

I am worried about my cats going in the garden now. I have two 4m old kittens and they have already been stung by a bumble bee they decided to Corner and nibble.

Put something strong smelling there (jeyes fluid normally recommended but anything with a strong smell will do) and they’ll go elsewhere. But if you’ve got the Queen then you’re fine anyway as it is her that a nest needs

My db removed a huge nest from my parents house about 5 years ago. He said it was the the most bravest and stupid thing he ever did. The nest hasn’t come back though.

Yeah, dh was wearing tshirt and shorts, no thought to any protection. I should be grateful he isnt stung.

So the wasps cant survive without the queen?

We had a wasps nest once and got a professional in to remove it. He told us they never return to the same site twice so we didn't need to worry about them coming back

We had a wasp nest removed from our loft years ago by a specialist. He said they rarely come back. Ours never did but the swarm had already left with the queen
