Should we use this tradesperson ?

Need to do some work in our garden. Friend whom I trust recommended someone. They have done some initial clearing work.

Being honest we weren't blown away, seem lovely but were a bit late I had paid for full time - which they didn't make up. Didn't explain that they would leave the rubbish here for us to dispose of and we're just generally a bit flaky (by which I mean said they could do X but then there was a reason why they couldn't do X).

They had given a ballpark quote to lay a lawn (which was the main purpose of the clearing) but turned out they had misunderstood. Quote has now come in at 35% higher than our top budget. However, on a timing perspective if we don't go with anyone we are going to be left with a mud pit garden becauce no one else has availability for at least another 6 weeks (and then laying a lawn when we will be away on holiday and have to rely on automatic watering).

Note I don't think that the flakiness is becauce they aren't reliable or good, I think they're frankly a little laidback/ artisanal in their approach, IYSWIM.

I'm going to have to pay this aren't I?

look on checkatrade or mybuilder.com

checkatrade or mybuilder.com are listings that tradespeople pay to be on, I think, so doesn't mean good value.

Don't continue - you are already unhappy

Check with local friends/family/neighbours for reccos - and expect to have to wait several weeks

Its not ideal, but you could put down that weed sheeting OR temporary deck in the meantime
