Cost of screening floor??

Just a quick question for those with some experience of screed! How much have you paid to have floor levelling screed down? I've been quoted around £480 for 27sqm. The guy is charging £40 a bag and reckons we need 12 bags laid over asphalt but tells me it will only take a few hours to do. I feel like we're being ripped off but really don't have a clue!

Screwfix sells levelling compound for £15/bag, so £180 for materials.

Then the cost of his time (including procuring materials and travel), buying tools, experience, insurance, VAT, sick pay etc.

Depending what part of the country you're in I wouldn't say that's outrageous, it would probably be a bit cheaper my way. Get another couple of quotes if you're not sure.

Thete are different brands and types of self levelling compound though, depending on what is needed, they are not all the same so he could well be paying £40 a bag.
