Removal company London

We are hopefully on the move shortly and the thought of packing up our flat fills me with dread. Ideally I would love to find a company that packs everything up for you and takes it to the new house. I also would prefer not to have to list every tiny thing that will be moved to get an accurate quote.
Is there a company who is willing to quote based on number of bedrooms etc and who would pack everything for us with little fuss? Or am I expecting the impossible? Many thanks

Most companies will offer a packing service, you don't have to provide details of everything, but they'll want to take a look. Some are doing this virtually, and others in person. Not all offer an unpacking service though.

We used DBM Express based in north London, they were the most competitive and took the furniture apart and reassembled as well. They did the packing too, no fuss. They did a video call with me to provide the quote.

Good luck, it's really stressful!

cafedesreves · 18/05/2021 09:28

Thanks so much @CoolKitkat will check them out. With a young baby it's just a stress I could do without! Although the cost of it all is also sickening! Will be great in the end though...

In West London there is a great company called Economic Moves.

Needmoresleep · 18/05/2021 09:30

If you are moving out of London it can be worth seeking quotes from the town you are moving to.

They drive up, pack, move your things to their town, and are in the right place when the job ends.

cafedesreves · 18/05/2021 09:34

Thanks - were actually moving within South East London. Great thoughts though!

SurreyMumOfOne · 18/05/2021 09:36

That's how most of them work. The person who comes round (assuming they still do) will quote based on volume of stuff. I don't know how they visualise it, but that's their job! Most also do the packing service and I've found the cost of packing is incidental to the total cost of moving, so well worth it.
We used Casey's to move from SW London to N Surrey. Also had quotes from firms in the area we moved to and they were more expensive!

Laffinalltheway · 18/05/2021 13:42

They're nearly all doing virtual surveys at the moment, via zoom or similar, and will quote according to that.

Packing up my 2 bed flat (which was packed to the rafters) was only £400, took about 5 hours

I used 'London Removal Company' - this was about 2 months ago, v fair priced quote vs others. They are based SE but cover all of London (I am NW & moved to London outskirts)

We are in SE London and used Bishops Move. They were great and hadn’t expected us to pack anything (even though we had). We are moving again soon and will definitely be using them again

cafedesreves · 19/05/2021 10:28

Thanks so much will check these all out!

In SE London try Roberts and Denny’s.
Reasonably priced, they do a video assessment in order to give a quote.

SBAM · 19/05/2021 18:51

We used Essex removals for a move from zone 4 to west Essex and highly recommend them, fast, efficient, and very good value for money.

DappledThings · 19/05/2021 20:12

We also used Casey's as mentioned above to go from SE London to Kent. They were very good.

Is there a company who is willing to quote based on number of bedrooms etc and who would pack everything for us with little fuss? That is exactly what they all do. They will come over and have a quick look about then give you a quote for packing everything they can see.

This seems awfully cheap.

Not that I'm looking to move but I'm curious - did they put your furniture back together and carry items to the new rooms i.e. carry a bedframe upstairs into bedroom etc?

Yes, all of that. Put everything where we wanted it and rebuilt all the beds. We had bought a heavy chest of drawers from the previous owner and they moved that for us from one room to another as well.

UpTheJunktion · 20/05/2021 08:25

DappledThings was the £400 for the whole move, or the packing service? This might address smallgoons surprise.

Packing has always struck me as good value within the cost as a whole.

I never said anything about £400, that was someone else. I think it was about £500 out of a total of about £2800 that was the packing service. This was for a 3 bed house.
smallgoon · 20/05/2021 09:42

And would they remove something like a tv mount, or do they not get involved with items that are fixed to walls?

DappledThings · 20/05/2021 11:03

Not sure on that one. We didn't have anything like that to take.
SurreyMumOfOne · 20/05/2021 12:12

Don't know about a TV bracket, but each time I've moved (using Bishop's Move, Pickford and Casey's) they've always dismantled any furniture which needed doing and reassembled it, such as bed and wardrobe.

UpTheJunktion · 20/05/2021 12:35

Oops, sorry Dapple.

I have always asked re things like the TV mount - if you ask during the assessment I am pretty sure they would remove it. Doubtful that they would re-install it though.

Standard removal co things are dismantle and re-assemble beds, provide cardboard wardrobes and hanging rail, put all your hanging clothes in and then decant to your new wardrobe the other end (random order), blanket wrap your TV etc, and pack anything that won't fit in boxes. Provide boxes and an amount of packing material such as bubble wrap - all packing material if they do the pack-up.

One of the best things about a removal co over a 'man and van' or DIY set up is that they bring loads of boxes a few weeks in advance, or you book them for the pack service. No hunting down empty boxes.

They will also collect al the boxes a couple of weeks after you move.

It is surprising how many boxes you need for a two or three bed property. (probably over 120)

SurreyMumOfOne · 20/05/2021 12:43

Yep, we had tons of boxes provided. There was a £50 box deposit. I was given a few small ones in advance for us to pack personal items. Then once we were mostly unpacked they came to collect all of them. I was very open about the fact we still had about 15 to go, but they just said don't worry about them, and we find them handy for using in the loft!

Great thread! We’re moving within SE London too, hopefully just a 10min walk up the road.

We’ve had flyers and letters from removal companies, including Casey’s so good to see them mentioned here.

I got one quote from Aussie Man & Van to get an idea. aussiegroup.co.uk/removals/ For actual moving day, 3 men and 2 tonne lorry is £150ph or £1200 for 8hr day inc VAT. £720 inc VAT for 8hrs for 2 men to pack up day prior inc packing materials. The price includes dismantle, reassemble and box collection. Bit of an overkill quote but I wanted to budget for max. Think it would only take 4hrs for skilled professionals to pack our place.
