Hi all.
I currently live in a HA property that is fitted with plain internal doors that lack any appeal or character. The kitchen, living room and bathroom are fitted with solid fire doors, but the bedrooms doors are very flimsy and hollow.
I also noticed that all the doors appear to be wider than standard size doors which comes in handy for getting large furniture in and out but a pain to find doors of my sizes (sorry don't have measurements to hand as i write this) . The obvious shops i.e. b&q don't seem to stock them. Measurements taken previously by a door fitter told me the doors are metric sizes?
Anyhoo, when browsing online or watching home programs, i've noticed that some modern homes like mine who also have plain white doors use two types of door handles one a simple knob and the other type I can't describe, but the doors look simplistic and nice, unlike mine which just looks a bit bog standard. I definitely know that it needs a fresh coat of paint but not sure it will make a difference.
So I am thinking to do either of the following:
- Give a fresh coat of white paint and add a simple door knob/handle.
- DIY - add molding to create panel opt.
- Replace all doors with panels doors. (I quite like the one panel doors, four panel doors or the doors that have about 4/5 lines running down)
I have also considered part glass panels for downstairs to let the light flow between rooms but fire doors with glass paneling would just be a tad expensive and I always keep doors open until bed time or when leaving the house.
Can anyone recommend any retail shops? In London/Essex please? and a good door fitter if possible?
Also, looking for some creative minds/opinions. What would you opt for out of my 1,2 and 3 opts above,??
Whatever happens the flimsily hollow bedroom doors will need to be replaced.
