Units online kitchen with second nature doors versus howdens kitchen

Hello there,

Just wanted some advice from you all knowing people. I've chosen a kitchen from Units online with second nature doors in the Mornington range and now I'm trying to decide on a kitchen fitter/builder to do some work in my kitchen and fit the new kitchen. However every time I get someone round to give me a quote they mention Howdens. I haven't actually seen any examples of Howdens Kitchens so my question is would they be on a par with the kitchen that I have already chosen?

I'd expect Howdens to cost you more. The quality is generally good, though.

Builders are generally very keen to fit them for one or both of two reasons:

  1. It's a known quantity - they'll have fitted loads of them before and know exactly what to expect, so they can give a much more accurate estimate of the cost/their profit.
  2. Howdens offer account holders variable, sometimes significant discounts on list price, something that is annoyingly opaque. Many builders pass the discount onto their clients. Others don't, and pocket the difference.

@QuantumWeatherButterfly - I heard that was the case thank you. But do you think the Howdens kitchens would be a better quality than the Units online with the second nature doors?

I’ve never seen a Units Online kitchen, I’m afraid, so I couldn’t help you on that one. Sorry!

Hi I've just had a kitchen from Units Online with Burbridge Doors fitted and am extremely pleased. The range they offer is greater than Howdens with an extensive colour palette. You can also request different cabinet depths to fit awkward spaces. You get independent showroom kitchens with excellent pricing. I suggest you contact Bob at Units Online to discuss your requirements, you will not be disappointed ! If its possible to visit their showroom do so.

The reason fitters are suggesting Howdens is that they get a trade discount price (Which they may pass on!) and that there is always a Howdens close by should they need anything additional

Thank you so much! I agree I've been to Units Online and I was very impressed! Glad you're pleased with your kitchen x

Also have a Burbidge Kitchen from Units Online. Obviously I'm biased but I did masses of research & the quality is much better than Howdens.

I agree with a pp - the push for Howdens from builders is the discount they get - the more kitchens/ referrals they put through Howdens, the more discount they get which means they can offer the next customer a competitive price, and repeat.

Lots of companies stock Second Nature, so see if you can find a local kitchen company with a SN display so you can see the quality. I went to a local showroom to see the Burbidge kitchen, then ordered through Units Online.

How does units online compare to DIY kitchens? Have you got inframe Burbidge? Do they have any flexibility on sizes ordered ie one or two cabinets in non standard width/height? Thanks
