Rats!!

We have been living in our house for the past 3 months and just discovered we have a problem with rats!

The house backs onto a large field/nature reserve. We also have a large decking area which we plan to get rid of as don’t like it.

What can we do in the meantime before the decking comes up to get rid of them. We have two young children so needs to be safe for them.

I feel sick at the thought of this as our new house is our dream forever home!

Sorry, didn’t mean to give anyone nightmares! But rats are
a) intelligent
b) quite aggressive if feeling threatened and c) very athletic, so be careful if dealing with them.
I remember years ago throwing out a stale Christmas biscuit assortment for the birds.
A large rat appeared, chased off all the birds, then carefully selected a chocolate bourbon, making off with it.
He returned several times, attacking any birds who argued with him, and removed all the bourbons. The more boring crackers and digestives apparently didn’t appeal!
The cheeky blighter then climbed up on my doorstep and peered in through the patio doors, obviously peeved that no more chocolatey treats were forthcoming...
I now only offer food in bird feeders hanging from inaccessible branches.
