Completing today and the seller wont give me his alarm code as he said its his. I assume as its personal to him. Is this normal and will i have to pay for an alarm company to reset it. Or do i have a right to the code?

Must depend on the alarm then because I've never been able to find th engineer's manual for the ones we've had online.

Why do people have to be so difficult?!

Roselilly36 · 29/04/2021 14:31

Thank goodness for that. Good luck with in your new home.

You should ask him to make sure that he leaves the manual too if he has it. We were told that they’re often not published online due to the security risk. Our alarm went off for the whole of the first 2 days in our house, until the engineer could get out to stop it, as we didn’t know how to - luckily it was only the inside bell part. The last owners didn’t use it and so it hadn’t been used for years but DH decided to try the code they left to see if it worked...

If he has a contract with an alarm company ( aboutmaintenance checks, automatic response by the ac to alarm signals etc) then his code is related to the contract he pays for. None of your business.

Same reason he doesn't need to give you the policy number of his house insurance , or his online security password.

When we moved we set alarm to 0000 and left note explaining how to reset to code of their choice. He is being an idiot. Ring solicitor to get it sorted.

@Harryfrog12

Thanks everyone. Ive complete and my solicitors have had a message to say he will give me the code when i collect the keys this after. Spending the weekend stripping wallpaper now. Wish me luck Smile
That's good. He probably hasn't ever changed it and didn't set it up himself. When ours was installed the installer asked us what we wanted the code to be. I would have to google for a manual to find out how to change it.

I had this with my seller. It turned out that they didnt have a code as they couldbt be arrsed to pay the money to reset it when they moved in. It was installed by previous ones to them. It didnt cost much to get a service and reset from company. Is annoying though.
