Has anyone here used Gold Crest Chartered Surveyors?

Just that really — I'm wondering if anyone here has used them for a full building survey and could tell me about their experience? Unlike when choosing our solicitor, who was the obvious choice due to a lot of recommendations, we have no idea who to get for our north London survey, and I'm dithering between Gold Crest (who seem to be quite a large outfit) and some local surveyors, who tend to charge a lot more.

A friend of mine used them a few years back and was very happy with them.

Hi, I used Gold Crest twice in Nov 2020 and Feb 2021. They were reasonably priced. Their surveys are very detailed (maybe too detailed?) and include pictures of the areas reviewed with their comments. Yes I'd use them again.

Thanks @wakinguptosunshine and @Bountifulyou for the responses — this is really useful to hear. I've heard from a friend who used them that the survey was quite vague (lots of "could be worth getting someone in to check", when they felt that that was the surveyor's job, and wondered exactly what they were paying them for), so I was a bit unsure. But that may well be the case with all surveyors — we're all FTBs, so don't have a huge amount of experience here.

@Bountifulyou What area of the country are you in? And how long did it take from booking to receiving the write-up? Also, were you able to talk to them about any follow-up questions you had?

Hi yes, agree they do advise to get things checked but at least give an estimate of costs. I'm buying a house in the Hastings area. The survey was booked within 2 weeks, they emailed the report 5 days later and I was able to have a follow up call to discuss queries. Good luck.

We're about to sign up with them. We are in North London too.. how did you find them?

CarbonaraPasta · 07/03/2023 15:24

We received a quote from Gold Crest for level 3 building survey - are they any good?

Anotheradventureforme · 07/03/2023 21:18

I considered them, and the reviews were mixed but mostly positive (like all).
I went with a different surveyor in the end (same price) , but they were in the running!

CarbonaraPasta · 07/03/2023 23:06

which company did you go for in the end?@Anotheradventureforme

Anotheradventureforme · 08/03/2023 17:46

@CarbonaraPasta Watsons - I did one of those, compare quotes online form, asked some local surveyors and looked for recommendations. (I overthink things!).
Watsons were a decent price, didn't hassle me, answered emails straight away, seem very pleasant and sent me some great examples of surveys. I'll do a proper review once the survey is done!

We've used them twice and they've been excellent, great customer service, thorough report and can also offer suggestions for how get issues resolved. An example is we were recommended to get the chimneys capped & they linked two reputable companies as a starting point for quotes. Highly recommend!
