Garden Fence Pricing

Hi All, I've arranged to get 3 quotes for garden fencing. Two came out but only 1 came back with a quote. The 3rd man seems to have dropped of the face of the earth. The quote so far is £2.6k for 25 meter 5ft fence with concrete posts. for concrete gravel boards will be £500 extra. I'm sick of waiting and also don't want to loose the first guys if this seems reasonable but have nothing to compare to. Does this seem reasonable? I am based in London. Thanks 😊

We are rural so probably a bit lower pricing here. We have fencing on the bottom of garden to be replaced - maybe 7 metres by 5m and quoted £440, could be they are reusing the concrete posts if that's possible. Came into to DH so I don't know full details.

I've been getting quotes in outer london this week - had around 5 people come to price job. Its ranging from around 170-180 per board for gravel board & posts, so around £800 for a 4 board & concrete post fence. (1 person suggested £150 per board, he was the outlier)

So the question is: how many boards is it then you can work it out. - seems high to me though. I think you might be waiting a few weeks for stock of fence posts to come in though... (my neighbours are waiting on their job for this reason, & a couple of the people quoting mentioned it too) I wonder if its possible to just order those yourself if you know you want the job done though?

Pricing really is so different from area to area its unbelievable. Our parents think any cost for any work around here is extortionate compared to where they are.
We need 16 posts and 15 panels in total. we have considered buying this ourselves but wondered if there was a trade discount we would be missing out on. Will need to look at this again now we have an itemised quote. Thanks for your responses and also for the heads-up re delays 👍

I can see on eBay you can buy a post, gavel and panel for £50 so total would be £750 for materials

Oh wow thanks @snotaproblem will have a look now 👍. Love your name haha

My DP plans to do ours and he has calculated the cost of the same length as £2k so given he's doing it, £2400 seems okay.

Happytentoes · 14/04/2021 10:40

Seems very reasonable. Friend who does this tells me his raw material costs have gone up significantly , so his price has had to rise by about 30%

MilduraS · 14/04/2021 10:41

We spent just over £3k on ours. 8 panels with concrete posts installed and then 7 replacement fence panels just slotted in on one side which already had the concrete posts. Took two workmen two and a half days. Most of our enquiries were never returned, a few called back to say they were booked up until next (now this) year and the firm who finally responded and accepted the job had to wait a few months for fencing supplies to come back into stock due to a shortage. At that stage we were so grateful to have had the work done we would have paid twice as much and been happy.

Just had 9.5 metre run which included 3 gates on it then 8 metres of for £1900 I think it was. He ordered the materials a few weeks ago and said good thing he did as it as just gone up by around 30% in the last few weeks.
