Is Ferryhill County Durham a safe place to Live?

Hi Everyone,
I was hoping for some advice on Ferryhill County Durham, I have found a beautiful house that I want to buy that is near Dean Bank.
I have read some comments online that say the area is slightly rough but there is not much information. Is this area safe? Does it suffer from serious crime like burglaries/thefts/assault?

Any advice would really help, thank you in advance :)

Hi, I live in a nearby city and would say, yes, Ferryhill is rough. Few job opportunities, lots of social housing, poor schooling, lacks aspiration. The poisitives are that you have beautiful countryside close by, vibrant and cultured cities within a short drive and great house prices. Are you from the North East?

Thanks meecrowahvay, I had a look at the crime numbers and they seem similar to other places. Am I missing something?

Hi MrsPworkingmummy, thank you for the advice. I'm from Derby so not familiar with Ferryhill too much, I am planning to work mostly online so work opportunities won't effect me too much. I would love to live somewhere with beautiful scenery and country views but I am mostly concerned about burglaries/thefts. Do you know if it's mostly antisocial behaviour issues there?

I’m from that area and I’d probably avoid that area if possible but you’re right it’s just anti social behaviour and that sort of thing it’s not some gang crazed city centre or anything.

Definitely nicer areas nearby though

It's a bit of a shit hole, tbh. Definitely to be avoided if you don't know the area well.

Haha I was trying to be polite but yeah totally agree with you!

Areas of Ferryhill have high level of deprivation and around Dean Bank especially. It's not so much the social housing, but the very cheap BTL in the area are an issue.

There is DurhamGate just a bit further up the road, also Newton Aycliffe is ok in areas. As an outsider I would also avoid Chilton and West Cornforth. Bishop Middleham is ok which is just outside Ferryhill.
