What layout would you have these rooms?

Hoping that some people on here have more of a flair for interior designs than I do. Please see photo of room layout. Kitchen will stay where it is.

We currently have a breakfast bar/casual dining table in the kitchen which we use daily. The walls have been taken down between the family room and dining room so all open plan.

Currently we have sofa, tv in the family room and a formal dining table in the dining room. I have thought about switching these around but wonder if a formal dining table so close to a relaxed one in the kitchen would look daft?

I’ve also thought about getting rid of the formal dining table completely (or putting into a small front room, currently used as a bit of a dumping ground, nappy change area etc) and using the family room area as a ‘play room’ for DD. She is only 3 months and we hope to have a second child so there would be an element of longevity to it (hopefully) and means she would be close to the kitchen where we spend a lot of time. Or I could use the small front room as her play room.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Personally I would have the current family room as the dining room. But that may be just me. I choose not to carry things too far from a kitchen to a dining room.

I think it depends whether you think you’ll use the dining room? I’m a fan of a big kitchen diner with a cosy separate living room, so I’d probably be inclined to make your kitchen/family room a “proper” kitchen diner with a sofa and your daughter’s toys to make the whole space a family space. And then have the living room as a more adult space for when DD is in bed.

Yep I would make the current family room into a dining room possibly with a small sofa so it’s a day room then a nice separate lounge

That's not what it looks like in the plan. It would make more sense to have the dining room leading off the kitchen. The room you're currently using as the dining room is bigger than the family space too.

I'd do this .

@121hugsneeded

I'd do this .
Bloody hell Hugs - that is lovely! I want to send you my house now!

Thanks ! It's similar to ours that we had done recently. So can't really take the credit . Just copied what our designer did.

@GreyhoundG1rl that’s the original plans for the house but the previous owners took the walls down. I don’t have an updated plan.

@121hugsneeded this does look good and good for thought. Not sure we’d be able to afford to do that all atm unfortunately.

Yes consensus seems to be what my gut feeling was too. I’m just wary of having a dining table in the family room so close to a high ‘breakfast bar’ in the kitchen.
