And if so, how much?

There is no way I would have helped our team last time we moved - would have been completely under their feet, and in the way! They sped in and out, manoeuvring heavy stuff and had a system for not bumping in to each other. Helpers would have been the equivalent of toddlers under the feet of waiting staff in a restaurant.

When I did a big national move i tipped both ends. Tea, coffee and food for all both ends. It's hard manual work but I've always found that if you take care of people and treat them like you value and trust them you don't lose anything in transit!

I always do! We call it "Bills to duke the movers". We use a local firm who work so fast, so carefully and take apart and put together the beds and dining table. They emptied a big three bedroomed house in an hour and a half. Its usually £20 each.

No. I might if I were rich and they went over and above the expectations I’d already have of them for paying for an expensive service, but it’s ridiculous to plan to tip them when you don’t know what sort of service they have provided yet.

I tipped £10 each when I moved recently, there were three of them. Small flat and wasn't moving far so it only took a morning but there were lots of stairs so I felt they deserved it. Previous move I didn't tip as they were grumpy buggers!

Yes, if they go above and beyond, regardless of how much you've paid initially.

I tipped £20 each but they worked like trojans (hope that's not racist!). They had packed everything beforehand - there was 114 boxes! and the furniture from a four bed-room house plus about twenty flower planters and a number of garden ornaments.

They ate a whole box of Rover assorted biscuits and drank eight million cups of tea.
