Do you have a walk in (doorless) shower?

And if so, does it get chilly?

We’re planning a new shower room en suite. We’ve got a fair amount of space and we’re not bath people, so it will have one big shower. The debates rages on between architect, DH and me about whether to get a door less shower enclosure, or one with a door.

I’m mostly worried it will be cold in there without a door. I like a nice steam up in my shower.

What has your experience been like?

Thank you o wise MNers 🙏

Ours is perfectly warm, we have a heated towel rail just outside it. I’m a cold person normally and hate the cold blast after a shower cubicle door opens. Much prefer the walk-in as it’s one even temperature rather than the contrast.

Ooh I like that. Thank you, that’s really useful

Agreed. Open end in our en suite with huge towel radiator as you come out with warm fluffy towels for immediate use. This is vital!

As is a decent shower tray which should be at least 1400mm long. Ours is a Bette Floor. Completely flat. If you have a big shower head, get substantial drainage. Make sure your glass is substantial. You do not need a door to have a luxurious shower. We have two other showers with doors and I do prefer the open one! Just don’t have cheaper glass or a small tray!

We have a wet room with a screen. It is great having it all on one level. No stepping up or down from it, no opening or closing a shower door as you get in or out.

We've got a 1700mm shower with a screen and love it - the other showers
Have doors and I like these too but cleaning is way more awkward 😉

We have an open shower and I don't find it chilly. Underfloor heating and towel rail here too.

Ours is open ended but no it’s not cold, the bathroom is warm, there’s a heated towel rail in there. The bathroom still steams up

Ahbahbahbah · 23/03/2021 06:58

I’ve never been cold in ours - as soon as you walk out there’s a heated towel rail and we have underfloor heating so it’s a nice cosy room. I prefer them without doors when you can have a big enough space.

I don't have a door on mine and it steams up nicely. It's quite enclosed though with only a gap where the door would be instead of the door, and the top is open

So it has 4 sides with a gap on one side

The shower is pretty long and there's a towel rack attached to the end so you can get a towel before you step out

I agree with the pp that it's nice not to have any cold shock - there's a smooth transition

Hallyup5 · 23/03/2021 11:26

It'll only be as cold as a shower over a bath. I can't say it's ever been an issue for me.

Hoppinggreen · 23/03/2021 11:27

No, ours isn’t cold at all

gretagreengrapes · 23/03/2021 11:28

I think its less cold as there's no stepping out into a cold room and a big draught coming at you when you open the door!

Yellownotblue · 23/03/2021 12:19

Thank you all, this has been very useful. No door it is!

Doesn’t your bathroom have to be cold to get a cold shock? I’ve never had one in my life. But the bathroom is warm.
