Moving to Wheatley Hill County Durham

Hi everyone, I live in Derby but have wanted to move to County Durham for a while now, I found a nice semi-detached in a village called Wheatley Hill. I put an offer in January so we are getting close to completing.
I am now worried as a few people have mentioned Wheatley Hill has some trouble, none of these people live in the area so it's just what they have heard.
Does anyone live in Wheatley Hill or have any experience of the area? Is it safe? Thank you for any help in advance.

I think Doggie is probably a mixed bag like a lot of County Durham villages. I think it's had a few issues with social problems over the years and probably has some bellends who live there. Id rather live there than Wheatley Hill though 😁

Hi All,

I am writing this post in the hope that I will save a family or individual enduring the misery and abuse we have to contend with. Living in Wheatley Hill is like living with a abusive partner but the abusers are neighbors and some members of extended families in the community.

Please whatever you do DO NOT rent,or buy a house in Wheatley Hill, County Durham, even a new build (Marley Fields and similar). The level of drug use and dealing, anti social behavior and criminality is off the scale. Children targeted, bullied and assaulted at school, daily verbal abuse, criminal damage, drug dealing is the norm. Everything you read regarding these forum posts is unfortunately true. If you are still not convinced that Wheatley Hill is not a good place to live, have a walk around the village near the Co-O store on Front Street.

In essence avoid any village in the North East that was formerly a mining village also known locally as pit villages.

Large parts of the Northeast are socially deprived. The talk of levelling up is just talk I'm afraid. The house prices in these villages are cheap for a reason.

Wheatley Hill has in some ways improved, but in other ways has gone down hill. Durham Road used to be the better part of the village, but now has deteriorated. The once pleasant small road is now littered with cars and vans from 2 residents.

Don't do it, it's a dump

Do not buy or move to Wheatley Hill. The comments are true it's an absolute nightmare for any moving in from the outside.
