Hi all,

We are looking to move to St Alban's or Berkhamstead. We are seeing a property in Chiswell Green this weekend. I can't seem to find out much about the area. Can anyone advise? Is it a nice area to move to or should we be looking at other parts and if so can we have suggestions please? We don't need to be near schools as our kids are at uni. Is there a lot of crime around there? Etc any information will be gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance.

Chiswell Green is a nice area, small parade of shops, GP surgery etc. Waitrose nearby and close to M25 junction, slightly on a limb from the rest of St Albans. Most of St Albans is a good place to live, a lot of families move to St Albans from London, lots of cafes and restaurants, twice weekly market. Large park, a couple of theatres and refurbished sports centre. About 25 minutes into St Pancras on train. Berkhamsted is smaller, more compact, but again a pleasant place to live with similar centre, weekly smaller market, lots of independent restaurants and shops, plus Waitrose, Tesco etc. Trains into Euston. Most of the town is on a bit of a hill. Both areas are relatively low crime. It depends what atmosphere you are looking for. Both are expensive areas however

Chiswell Green is perfectly nice - good housing stock, low crime, small parade of shops. I wouldn’t describe it as St Albans as it’s about 8-10 minutes away by car. It depends whether you would like to live in a town with all amenities nearby - in which case St Albans itself or Berkhamsted would suit you better, or whether you are happy to be a little further out and get more house for your money. Also whether you would be commuting at all and by rail or car. Chiswell Green is great for M25, but definitely less convenient for a rail commute.
