Maidenhead/furze platt

Hi,

We have just bought a house in Maidenhead around the furze platt part, anyone know anything about the local area in more depth? Is it nice enough as it seemed nice when we went around but some people seem to think it can be a bit tough.

@SlipperyLizard we don’t need to consider schools but I am seeking work and a lot of jobs seem to be in London so access in the near future would be something I would need to consider. We looked at Surrounding areas and very little has come up we thought we had a healthy budget but apparently the supply and demand in areas like marlow and Bourne end are high hence being outpriced.

@SlipperyLizard no daughter already settled at school just can’t find anything in our budget in the nicer locations.

With that budget I'd go for Warfield over Maidenhead in a heartbeat. We moved to Bracknell from Maidenhead as wasn't keen on the feel of the town for our young family. We now live on the Bracknell/Warfield border and very happy. If we had an extra 150k or so we'd move to warfield village for sure.

@OnceUponARainbow we have been looking for 15 months and had no luck.

@tigerbread20 thanks for the advice. We looked at war field but it is far from our daughter school. It just wasn’t accessible for her to meet friends etc or get to school easily enough. She is in secondary school.
@Springingintospring those were our first choice and after 15 months of looking without any joy we have widened the search hence Maidenhead. Covid has really changed the market for us.
We're also looking to move from London and now considering Maidenhead. How has COVID changed the market for you?

Delectable · 15/04/2021 16:44

@OnceUponARainbow

I’m sure you have looked thoroughly but I would have thought you could get somewhere pretty decent maybe in bourne end or similar for £1m.
Is Borune End nice then? Does it have a station? I only know Bray in Maidenhead. We'll be viewing in Maidenhead this weekend. Our budget is about £1m too.
KindnessCrusader · 15/04/2021 17:22

For that price I'd look in Twyford/Ruscombe/Hurst. Beautiful areas and you'd get a decent 4 bed for that money.

Sim7 · 15/04/2021 18:40

@Springingintospring covid completely out priced us for our areas of choice and what we wanted. Our daughter is at school in Burnham so in the end a Maidenhead works for a few years. I can’t see the price of houses come down at all so before we got out priced again just making the move.

@ Bourne end is nice and has a station too. We were looking there for a while but again couldn’t find what we wanted and very little came up. Bray is nice but again very little in terms of houses.

@Sim7 we already live in the area (Cookham), not planning on moving! Good luck in your search. Smile

Sim7 · 15/04/2021 22:08

@OnceUponARainbow losing the plot! Sorry and thanks

Just a thought, but have you looked at the Switchback area between Cookham and Maidenhead? This is on the market for that sort of budget.

I agree with other posters though, none of Maidenhead is really unsafe, and it will be a solid investment with Crossrail. I'd also say if things seem too expensive in areas like Cookham keep an eye on prices, there seems to be a steady trickle of property there being reduced. People are definitely chancing their arm a bit at the mo, but if something's been lingering on the market for a while I suspect there will be deals to be done!

Whydotheycallyoured · 16/04/2021 14:58

Appreciate the OP has already bought and @Sim7 and @Delectable are looking at a different price point but for anyone else looking around this area here’s a shameless plug for my semi rural 4 bed which is 10/15 mins to Maidenhead station. Area is lovely but we’ve moved North to be closer to family.

@Whydotheycallyoured love your bathroom and kitchen especially. We need more space for my MIL.
Would love to know where your bath is from.

Whydotheycallyoured · 16/04/2021 17:45

It’s from William Holland. I can really recommend them.

Sim7 · 16/04/2021 21:01

@Whydotheycallyoured. Beautiful home 😘😊

Hi. I know its an old post but wanted to ask...

We are putting our house on the market in London after Christmas and am starting search around relocating to Maidenhead.
DS is in specialist secondary near railway station, need to find mainstream secondary for DD with good pastoral care. Viewed Altwood and seems a caring and nurturing school. Also DH and myself need to commute into London so max 30 min walk to station. Also, budget is £650-700k for 3 bedroom. Altwood area has houses in that region. Would people prefer Furze Platt area? Would be good to find semi at least as DS is autistic and can be loud in the garden so will need understanding neighbours, but suppose this will come down to luck!
Thanks so much!
