This has just gone on the market down the lane from us. Must admit I'm tempted by the land and pond, though the house needs a bit of overhauling....(DH will never move from our house though so I'd need to rehome him):

OP I love Henley, you’re so lucky to live there, it’s a beautiful part of the country.

You’re right, house needs a bit of an overhaul, but surprised with all that land it doesn’t cost more.

SJaneS49 · 10/03/2021 14:25

Very pretty! If we’re talking fantasy then once you re-home DH you could take on a gardener (as with the land it’d be rather a lot to manage on your own!) and have a bit of a Lady Chatterley's lover situation. After all, shame to let those outbuildings go to waste??

In a fantasy situation with money and location no option then I’d be going for a main property nearish us in Kent to continue DDs schooling, a weekend little cottage down on the coast in Rye and a holiday home in Shropshire for duty visits with my family. Some re decoration would be required, especially in property one.

@SJaneS49, there's a thought. DH currently spends pretty much all his time tending our land (3.5 acres of wildflower meadows mainly), maybe I'll get him to do a job share. He does look quite fit in grubby shorts Grin

I love the ones in your links!

Picture 9 made me laugh

'What's this room?'
'Well, when you've got a sofa, TV, piano, half a church pew and a gym, you've got to put them all somewhere.'

SJaneS49 · 10/03/2021 14:45

:-) a very multi functional room for sure!

@Mumblechum0, a fantasy gaff and an additional boost to the marital sex life. Win win really all round! My DH is not a son of the soil & tends to be sweaty and absolutely foul tempered after an afternoon wrestling the garden so out for us I’m afraid!

Mumblechum0 · 10/03/2021 14:46

That is gorgeous! I mean, yes, I'd probably repurpose the games room, but what a beautiful place. Presumably it's always that sunny too. TBH though, I'd mainly want it for the garden and the greenhouse - which I could probably add onto a cheaper property and save a couple of million....

CanadianJohn · 11/03/2021 03:56

All out of my price range, I'm afraid.

What is meant by "period" in the house descriptions? There are lots of possible historical periods, architectural styles, etc. Or is this just "estate agent talk".

SJaneS49 · 11/03/2021 08:55

It’s just a generic term for older properties.

Panicmode1 · 11/03/2021 18:14

Wish I didn't have a 6ft 6 husband (and equally tall children). Not that these are in my price bracket, but it does mean I can't dream about any house with beams/low doors!

didireallysaythat · 11/03/2021 19:25

@Mumblechum0 oh the one is Henley is absolutely my dream house. I think I'm going to download the pictures and have it as a screen saver on my computer to brighten up my conference calls. I could spend days just gazing at the greenhouse...

Mumblechum0 · 11/03/2021 20:52

It is lovely. Very close to the road but there’s very little traffic as it’s a very steep, narrow lane so most people go the long way round.

I've been listing after this one for a little while, and it's sold before I even had a chance to win the lottery Sad

Mumblechum0 · 11/03/2021 21:04

@Tequilamockinbird mmm, that’s beautiful, love those bow windows

OP posts:
Tequilamockinbird · 11/03/2021 21:10

The only thing I would change about it would be the kitchen. One day.....

Rapunzel91 · 11/03/2021 21:26

Its beautiful, so close to my dream house and property!😍 if you can afford it definitely go for it! Personally I dont like grade listed houses as you're so limited in how you can update them and their drafty/use a lot of energy

MariaAngustias · 12/03/2021 12:04

OK well this is something very different - cheap and tiny but I am in love with this little cottage and it would make an amazing little holiday home or holiday rental, it is just so very cute.

Sprig1 · 12/03/2021 12:11

Nice. For that kind of money I wouldn't want to front straight on to road though, however infrequently used. I like the greenhouse!

30PercentRecycled · 12/03/2021 12:17

I'd like to be rich enough to buy something as mad looking as this one:

I'm sure the one on Mermaid Street in Rye has featured , at least as an exterior, on Mapp and Lucia.

Dryadia · 14/03/2021 09:45

Total fantasy house for me, is on the wrong side of the ocean, but oh well. I would totally use this for the basis of any build over here though Grin

Only $10Mill

SJaneS49 · 14/03/2021 11:09

@Dryadia - would you have the three not just one tennis court?! Not sure about all the dark wood but what a lovely house - looks like the film set for a mafia crime boss’ gaff!

@echt - interesting! The properties on Mermaid Street are lovely - overpriced compared to the rest of Rye and you’d have loads of tourists past the window everyday but it’s such a charming street. I’d move there in an instant if DH didn’t need to be closer to London.
