Can anyone explain this layout...

Just come across this property whilst stalking rightmove - it is lovely and in a wonderful area but can't make out the front of the property - there seems to be a bridge to the front door which is on the second floor.... very curious. Floor plans don't help. Anyone any idea?

Yes the main entrance opens onto the upstairs hallway.
But there's also a back entrance downstairs which is likely used as the main door.

I grew up in a house with a similar layout that was on a hill with the entrance at first floor level. There were no specific issues other than the windows at the front that were below ground level were a bit dark/view was looking out at a wall.

@Myshinynewname well thanks for that LOL never realised a Brae was a hill - should I know that or do you know that because you are Scottish :)

@MariaAngustias not Scottish but I lived there for a while and loved it. Seemed to have brought home quite a few new words!

Lovely area and I like the quirky layout.

Looks dark though...presumably not helped by the fact that the downstairs front looks straight out onto the side of a hill. Also the back garden is really narrow where it backs up against the houses on the side.

If that cylinder set up is one of those space saving tables with chairs tucked in the ceiling must be incredibly low

That aside I love it

Isolatedizzy · 09/02/2021 20:49

I love it! And that garden! 😍

Gorgeous house, I might have just had a little weep about how cheap it is!

Two bedroomed houses round here are about half the price so I thought it was expensive! Jedburgh is lovely though.

I don't think the first floor entrance is original. I think the front garden sloped steeply downwards and they have levelled it off and created a "causeway" to what was the middle window on the first floor.

justanotherneighinparadise · 09/02/2021 21:54

You enter through an upstairs window 🤭

It’s certainly original!

Was it ever a water mill?
I have seen this lay out twice before one was a Flint mill the other was a Flour mill in Cornwall, or I could be totally wrong.

Thewiseoneincognito · 11/02/2021 10:50

For that price it’s a steal!

callmeadoctor · 11/02/2021 11:06

Lovely, can't work out the garden though.
