Cost to rewire a 1930's 4 bed detached.

Looking at buying this year, probably a 4-bed detached. Having been looking for months online, very few have been rewired. Usually there is a mish mosh of surface mount sockets on skirting boards, one socket in a bedroom, extension leads, no external lighting, etc, etc.
So looking for a ballpark, back of a fag packet, finger in the air, cost to rewire to modern requirements including outside power and lighting on all sides. Including consumer board, quality (white) face plates, excluding making good.

I'm thinking £5k ? NorthWest of England.

£7k in London here.

We've just had our quote in at £4k but that's just for basic white sockets - I want brushed brass / silver so it'll be more than that. NE.

Thanks so far.

We had a house in NW rewired in 2017. It was a 3 storey house but only 2 bedrooms and it was £2300 including USB sockets etc

3 bed semi - £7k in Surrey, with nicer sockets than standard

I think £7k would be a good price depending on the quality of fittings, how many you want and where. Labour is the expensive bit.

We had our 4 bed 3 reception 1930s semi rewired for £4.5k in 2019 (London borders). Included standard white plates with two usb sockets in each bedroom, excluded light fittings.

Sockets don't really make any difference to the price - it's mainly labour - chasing walls put, lifting floors etc. Excluding the making good will save you a fair bit on a solid walled 1930s place. Should be able to have the wiring done, new consumer unit & signoff for around £3k or so.

Thanks for the inputs.

My DD has just bought a 3 bed semi in a fairly affluent area outside London. She has just had a quote for some work including a new consumer board, Earth continuity and making safe/replacing outside wiring to log cabin. She was quoted £1900 and £800, both exactly the same job, so it can vary enormously!

Do your homework OP!

London, £8k for 4 bed 30s semi including massive garage/outbuilding & outdoor sockets. Additional costs came about because later additions extension & loft conversion made some of the chasing routes quite awkward etc. We also had data cabling and tv aerials wired into 4 rooms.

NW, 4 bed 3 storey victorian semi detached. Full rewire 2017 - approx 3.5k excluding repalstering (because entire house was getting renovated)
