Satin glass or stippolyte for front door side lights?

I like the idea of satin glass but I worry it looks too flat/matt. Stippolyte seems to be the least busy of the alternatives in the pilkington obscured glass range.

I've been dithering over this for weeks and need to decide! What would you go for?

Door will be dark grey with chrome hardware, sidelight frames will also be dark grey, like the pjcture, but the patterned glass in the door will be a less busy lattice pattern

Just have a simple Matt glass. No pattern. Don’t take away from the front door.

I would make a feature out of the glass not the door. So vibrant glass, door and wall the same colour.

Chumleymouse · 22/01/2021 15:48

If it’s not in view of the nosey public I’d have clear glass in the side panels but otherwise the frosted glass looks better than patterned, As for the door, not sure it depends on the style of the house.

We recently did our door and went for satin glass either side, we are very happy.

PresentingPercy · 22/01/2021 17:59

Sorry. Just to elaborate. Your front door glass is quite busy with lead lights and colour. If you have a busy glass panel I think it would not match the front door glass. Therefore I would go with plain. We actually had plain opaque in the front door too so it all matched. It just has a tiny clear bevel around each pane. What does your door company recommend?

RugsEverywhere · 22/01/2021 18:39

What style of house is it? Do you need privacy?

Soppyspanieleyes · 22/01/2021 18:49

Go for frosted or clear in the sidelights otherwise it will look to busy and you're very unlikely to match the pattern in the door anyway.

Primotomb · 22/01/2021 19:03

Thats my worry @PresentingPercy, I'm a matching kind of person.

This is the actual door we like, the other picture was just to show how the sidelights would be.

We do need privacy @RugsEverywhere, we're on road with lots of foot traffic and don't want passers by to be able to see right through the house

Would this glass in the door "go" better with satin sidelights? I would like some detail in the door glass rather than going for satin everywhere

We have the satin glass in the door as well as the side lights so it all matches and then a small amount of detailing in the door, our door has much less glass than yours though. I might have a picture on my phone.

UncomfortableSilence · 22/01/2021 19:46

I like the glass on your first picture the best.

Primotomb · 22/01/2021 20:03

Thanks @UncomfortableSilence, I'd love to see yours if you have a picture.

Sorry I had to crop the photo a bit as my porch tiles would be very outing but you get the idea.

I had plain obscure glass with a transparent bevelled edge in a replacement door I put into a house I owned. I thought it looked really smart and it was grey with chrome fittings plus it’s number! It didn’t have side panels but I would have matched them.

I think your door glass doesn’t lend itself to door panels due to the complexity of the pattern. The only suggestion is to have plain glass that matches the small sections in the door glass. I do think plain looks fine with decent door furniture.

PresentingPercy · 22/01/2021 23:42

My door was a Solidor Ludlow. I kept the glass plain.

I’d 100% go for satin glass side panels with that door and glass pattern
