Is there a 2021 extension thread?

Just that really, I found it very informative (and exhilarating and at times heart breaking!) to read the 2020 extension threads. I couldn’t find a 2021 extension thread. Please can you direct me, or if there isn’t one, let’s start it! All welcome.

As for us - we’re awaiting PP for our extension and our architect said the work might start as early as March (ha! I’ll believe it when I see it). It’s a large extension and we will need to move out for about 9 months so I’m a bit flustered at the thought of moving out in 7 weeks’ time. We’re extending over the garage, in the garden and in the loft, and doing a shedload of other stuff from electrics to roofing and redecorating everything. We’re in SW London.

@callmejudith Me and ds did 4 months without a kitchen - I look back and have no idea how we did it 😂

We had a lot of ready meals - especially the 'healthier' range at m and s (I forget what it's called). I made ds try and eat a proper lunch at school (he was in 6th form) and gave him fruit for breakfast. You can do a lot in a microwave - baked potatoes, beans, ready meals. I consoled myself that it was only for 4 months. In the end we both lost weight!!

Our garden is being ready laid for turf! It's so exciting! Shed is approved but we need to wait a few months for it to arrive. Architect plans in for us next week. Have quotes for the alcove shelves and will start the wallpaper stripping tomorrow!

(I also work FT out the house so that helped!)

@Callmejudith. We bought a portable induction hob. Fantastic.

RebelGeek76 · 03/10/2021 08:01

@Callmejudith we've had our temp kitchen since the first few days of our build so just over 3 months now. We got a ninja foodi and that's been a godsend plus our old George Foreman Grill that I was about to throw away. I can't wait to have a kitchen again!

Callmejudith · 03/10/2021 09:41

My neighbour has lent me a portable hob which is fab. My mum also has loads of gadgets I’ll see what I can steal.

We’re going to need a new thread soon!

Another vote for the Ninja Foodie! Get the one with two compartments if you can. We didn’t and I regret it.
I’m finding it hard now having been without a kitchen for almost 2 months. We have a mini oven but it’s too small for most things. We are living off microwave meals. There’s just nowhere to put anything and I’m finding the whole house is just becoming dirty and messy.
On the plus side the timber for the roof has arrived so if the rain holds off we might get that started. Anyone have any idea how long a rubber flat roof takes to build?

I was on this thread a while ago - near the beginning I think. But I disappeared! Build is definitely hitting the stress now. Added in to illness here it’s been horrid the last few weeks. What’s left of our kitchen is being ripped out next week and the new one is fitted from 18th. Guess we just need a push to get this bit done. We have so much painting etc to do too. My husband seems to think we should do it all now at the same time but I’m just worn out. Anyone else feel the same? We’ve had it relatively easy really. Had a builder we know and trust and he hasn’t let us down at all (few minor niggles but nothing really) and so far all good with supply. Still waiting for one very slow item but ordered so far in advance that it’s not holding us up…yet.

Callmejudith · 04/10/2021 09:38

NoTea I'm also kitchen on the 18th and so is Poshwatch so we're all on the final push.

Roofer is here today fitting the velux....do we think the foreman told him about the cooker hood extraction....of course he bloody didn't.

Plasterer's daughter is ill so he didn't turn up Friday but will apparently be here tomorrow.

We are supposed to be screeding the floor on Wednesday I am not hopeful.

I made a new thread hope that’s ok
