costs of replacing single glaze sash windows

We've had an offer accepted on a house and we know the windows need replacing. They are mainly sash, some casement and some odd shapes. We want to replace with double glazing with wooden frames. I tried to get a quote from a Anglian Windows but they won't quote till we own the property.

Anyone got any ball park figures or recommendations of good companies? I know its going to be an expensive job!

We're North East, had 18 windows replaced from single glazed wood to double glazed, (some sash) all windows had to be individually measured as all different sizes. Cost us around £11,600. I would recommend finding a local firm.

Thanks @ImSoMagical we are North-West so hopefully similar prices.

Previous owners have spec'ed the interior and decorated to a very high standard but you can poke your finger through nearly every window frame and all original single glazing. It's a big job but it looks like the only maintenance work.

Any other top tips on replacing windows whilst I have your attention?! thanks for your advice

We kept some of the original frame features (if that makes sense) for aesthetic reasons so make sure you know exactly what you want replacing. We got a softer wood (cheaper than hardwood but extremely hard wearing, long lasting, treated etc) it was cheaper. Cant remember what its called I'll have to ask hubby. Smile
