Sold house but cant find anywhere

We have recently sold our house and put an offer in for one we liked but they have now decided they are not selling. There is nothing else we like up for sale and I'm worried how long the buyers will wait.

We are already the 3rd house in the chain and not much is coming on the market now.

I'm thinking of saying to my buyers dont pay for any searches etc until I find somewhere but what do you think, is that normal or will it put them off and if they start the process now will they just have to wait for my purchase to catch up?

I cannot go onto rented so it literally needs to complete at the same time.

Ant thoughts appreciate, I've never done buying and selling before so it's all new to me.

How quickly are things moving in your chain and how quickly are things coming onto the market in your price bracket and to your taste? These are the sort of questions I’d be asking myself before even thinking about saying to my buyers that they should hold off on searches. Just remember that if your chain collapses then you may find it hard to find another buyer next time. A bird in the hand and all that jazz..

OP - I remember your earlier threads, if you think you would struggle to secure another buyer in the new year then I would definitely explore renting. It depends on your reasons for moving.

This was the big push for me - our house was just not that desirable in a post Covid world - a family house with a postage stamp garden and in need of quite a bit of cosmetic work. We ended up selling to a developer who owns the neighbouring property and some garages to the rear of my house. They didn't need my house to complete their project but it certainly has enhanced their re sale value. Plus we would have been trying to sell whilst they developed the house next door.
I did not want to be trapped there for another year or more.
