House move about to fall through

We are about 14 weeks into chain and were expecting to exchange today when the vendor of house we are buying said unless we complete on Monday he is pulling out. We can’t find a removal company that is free on Monday and it’s such short notice. The estate agents seem to be totally shocked and I can’t believe we are going to lose so much money and miss the stamp duty deadline over some arbitrary date. Has anyone got experience of vendors like this?

I was about to ask why there wasn't a mutually agreed date everyone was working towards but can see it was already agreed 7 January.

And now he is asking for more money.

Well he doesn't have the most to lose. You all have the same to lose. A house
He will sell it again. If the date was the 7th Jan though how could he actually ask for Monday? Doesn't make sense

How much does he want and why is he now asking for more money? Will he incur costs if the sales takes longer?

You don't seem very energetic about looking at other ways to have done it. Just rent some vans and do it yourself.

Oh my goodness, do not give into him OP. If you give and pay the extra money it will only encourage him. Sure he'll find a way to squeeze more out of you before anything actually happens.
Have your solicitors been communicating any of these antics to those further down the chain?

Goodness. I'd be tempted to pull out if I were you. He is being very unreasonable. What other stunts might he pull if you agree to his demands? I don't see why you should be running round hiring vans and doing the move yourself just to suit him and as for more money, he must be joking.
