Moving house - do we fill the holes?

When we take down pictures and whatnot do we need to fill the holes?

Most are picture hooks was just going to leave those but a few are wall plugs.

What's the legal thing?

Leave a screw sticking out the wall plug

ComtesseDeSpair · 02/12/2020 17:59

It’s polite to fill in and touch up. Unless your contract specifies that you must, there’s no legal obligation to. I don’t mind either way, I always paint a new house before I move in anyway so doing a bit of polyfilla first isn’t the end of the world.

Would never even occur to me to do this. Give it a good scrub, yes. Fill in picture holes, no.

When I sold my last house And was packing up I just asked the buyers what they'd prefer, for me to leave or take out and make good. They asked me to leave as they'd need to hang pictures anyway

Just take the pictures. Not what they hang from. Surely you leave hooks etc and buy new ones for your new house. Never leave holes but if you don’t remove screws and hooks there won’t be any!

We’ve just moved, our poor buyers have been left with many a picture screw & the odd quite large plug hole 😬 but so were we when we moved in. We fully redecorated so no matter. Similarly our new house has loadsa wall hangings left.. but again, we’ll be redecorating over the next couple months so it’s fine 🤷🏼‍♀️

karmadramallama · 02/12/2020 19:22

I wasn't going to take the hooks for the new place I'm not that mean! I just wanted to know if I should make it 'good'.

I'll leave it as is then - less hassle this end when trying to get organised.

Thanks

Well there’s no holes if you don’t relive anything from the walls. Just leave everything. Plugs, screws, hooks whatever.

PresentingPercy · 02/12/2020 20:03

Relive! Remove .....

DiesalFive · 02/12/2020 21:46

I had a few decor bits that were screwed in, and after taking them down there were a few unsightly holes so I filled and painting those, but general picture hooks I'm leaving for the buyer as they may well like to hang pictures!
