Cost to refurbish a downstairs loo?

Exactly that. Can you tell me how much you paid and what you had done/how much everything cost?

Mine is looking decidedly scruffy and outdated. The basin tap leaks, the plug no longer closes, the walls are stained - no tiling - and the pedestal is from the 90s.

Wow, someone saw you coming!

Nope, husband did it all as in the trade, check out Lefroy Brooks:

It's a very nice loo 😂

Yes, towel rain is heated instead of a radiator.

It's a very small loo but done with nice stuff and so won't be changed again in our lifetime.

If you want eye wateringly expensive but gorgeous look at Drunmonds bathrooms.

I love the Porcelanosa bathroom ranges. We thought it was a bit expensive for our cloakroom but I’m impressed.

We wouldn’t be changing anything in our bathrooms normally and 2 are 25 years old. 2 are 20 years old and our end suite is 10 years old. Happy with quality and choices. However the en suite was around £20,000 so definitely not being changed!

@claireb7rg that's lovely. Clean and simple.

I wont be paying £1,200 for a bog thank you very much (or £1,800 for the one with the gold fittings!)

So it seems that the main cost, aside from the loo/basin, is labour, plus wall tiles.

@PronkWine bloody hell, just seen an open plan bathroom project they worked on - no doors on the shitter and a sofa next to the bath (maybe invite the inlaws over to watch you soak!)

We have a glass wall between our en suite and a corridor to our bedroom. Frosted glass in the important areas and we have space for a settee if we wanted one! Lots of boutique hotels have baths in the bedrooms. Not a fan but obviously some guests must like them!

PerfidiousAlbion · 07/12/2020 09:12

@PresentingPercy I know - they're everywhere. Several Swiss hotels Ive stayed in had glass bathroom doors or bedrooms with baths. Puts me right off. I stayed in a Spanish villa once with a loo in the corner of the bedroom. No door, just a wall.

We stayed in the honeymoon suite at Tongsbezi lodge in Zambia (not our honeymoon!) but the loo had a view of the Zambezi River and was totally open. The bath was big enough for a football team. We do have frosted glass walls/door in the necessary places so modesty is preserved!

My brother stayed in a similar place and an elephant wandered past while he was in the bath. He didn't dare move!
