We’ve just moved back into our house after 9 months of building work and have had a new grey carpet fitted. Unfortunately when we moved back in a tennis racquet with an old grip that is starting to come away and that leaves little black sticky bits everywhere got left in our bedroom on the floor. We now have stick black dots all over our new carpet! When we tried to pick them up they just stuck to the carpet even more and spread the black sticky stuff even further. Does anyone please have any suggestions of how to get this off without ruining the carpet? Thanks!

Get a professional carpet cleaner in.

If you can’t afford a professional carpet cleaner try using either ice cubes/ice packs to freeze the sticky stuff so it goes brittle and pick it off.

If it’s a high pile carpet and it’s literally on the surface you could use scissors to snip it off. I did this when I got superglue on my high pile carpet. Go easy as you don’t want to snip into the pile and remove chunks.

There is also something also called De-solv-it sticky stuff remover but obviously do a patch test on the carpet first.

Thanks! Yes we probably will get a professional carpet cleaner in although we still have works being finished off and the house is still a bit chaotic so we may not be able to do that for a while and I didn’t want the sticky stuff to get ground into the carpet in the meantime.

We have got something called "Sticky stuff remover" - never tried it on carpet but it seems to work on everything I have tried.
