13 or 15 that should be a 13

I recently saw a number 13 on a new build estate and it got me thinking. Would you be put off by house number 13, or even a 15 that should be a 13?

Do new house buyers have a choice to change to 15 if their house should be number 13? It was the only 13 that I have seen on this estate.

I spent a very happy childhood living in a no. 13. My mum still lives there after 49 odd years. It's just a number!

Darkestseasonofall · 06/11/2020 08:44

It would put me off. I would never move into a number 13 house, nor t buy a car that had a number plate that adds up to 13 or contains 13.
I think it's quite common, most hotels don't use the number 13 for bedrooms either.

Superstitions are utter nonsense.

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 06/11/2020 08:50

I don’t know about changing the number but surely that would only work if the houses only go up to 13 otherwise every house above that would have to change its number too! Or you’d be stuck with two 15s in the estate

WombatChocolate · 06/11/2020 08:50

I wouldn’t be put off.

In fact, I actively walk under ladders, choose no13, etc etc to show I’m not beholden to such superstitions.

I own a house with no13 and my in-laws live in no13 too. I. Mice’s a house called 11A the other day...someone didn’t want to be no13.

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 06/11/2020 08:50

But also the number 13 wouldn’t put me off at all, it’s just a number.

RoseDog · 06/11/2020 08:51

Where I live none of the streets have a number 13! The houses were built in the 70s I think.

ticktackted · 06/11/2020 08:55

I grew up in a very happy 13. My parents think they got a bargain because it was no. 13! They put it on the market a few years ago & got offers quickly. Didn't end up moving, but it didn't seem to cause a problem.

Whoooootaminute · 06/11/2020 08:58

It doesn't bother me. My birthday is the 13th so I consider it a lucky number.

LittleBoxes · 06/11/2020 09:03

Our house number has a 13 in it and I think we got a bargain too. We could only afford it after the price was massively reduced after a sale fell through at the last minute and the vendors didn't want to lose the house they'd set their heart on. I always wonder if the buyer suddenly got cold feet because of the house number!

Burnthurst187 · 06/11/2020 09:09

My Mum grew up in number 69

Thirteen wouldn't put me off

MoirasRoses · 06/11/2020 09:20

There’s no 13 on my newish build estate. It annoys my OH no end, he thinks it’s a load of made up none sense. I agree although I haven’t got the energy to be annoyed about it 😂 it’s just a number.. I was born on a Friday 13th. I’m not unlucky. In fact, quite the opposite, I consider my life to have been predominantly very lucky throughout.

Zebrahooves · 06/11/2020 09:53

Number 13 wouldn't bother me either, it is just a number etc. It is obviously a thing though as there are so few of them.

In China, number 4 is seen as unlucky and they avoid it in any combination. So there are no fourth floors and 14 and 94 are very unlucky.

We’re moving house next Friday.. 13 November!

My mother in law thinks we’re mad and should have agreed to complete on Thursday instead Grin

I lived in a 15 that should have been a 13!
