Is your estate agent still doing viewings during lockdown?

Based on Robert Jenrick's tweets (Housing Secretary), I was under the impression that the housing market will not close down during this lockdown, and that estate agents, surveyors etc can continue to work.

We are on the market atm, and our estate agent is closing their offices (but not phone lines) and they won't be doing /booking viewings.

Not after a debate on the rights or wrongs of this, but I am curious as to whether this is what the majority of estate agent are doing?

We're in the process of moving at the moment, caught up with the agent we are buying through this morning and he assured me they are carrying on as normal.

SameAgainStan · 02/11/2020 18:57

Mine is carrying on as usual too.

SushiGo · 02/11/2020 18:58

I know mine is carrying on as normal too.

Our estate agent phoned this morning. Working as normal but now only showing proceedable buyers round houses.

Justgivemesomepeace · 02/11/2020 19:03

Carrying on as normal here. Only people in a proceedable position can view, they need to do an online tour and read the buyers report before hand to cut out viewings that would be a waste of time. Vendors are being asked to do the viewing themselves rather than us, to reduce the number of people going in the property. No more than 2 people to attend and they have to go in 1 by 1 unless the vendor waits outside so that there is a max of 2 people in the property at any one time. Thats our current process anyway. All must wear masks and gloves, no exceptions.

Hmm, looks like we might be losing out. I wonder if it depends on location too (a small town but in tier 1).

what's a buyer's report? If you meant 'homebuyer's survey', then these are not free to obtain, people get them after their offer is accepted.

sory, this was to Justgive.

The guidance to estate agents is not clear enough yet. All they know is that the government had said estate agents can stay open and people can still move. In March agents were classed as non essential and pretty much had to close and only have online viewings. The government have not clarified about house viewings yet so at the moment agents are assuming face to face viewings can continue. They will know more in Wednesday hopefully so I would not be too quick to change agents.
I worked in law btw.

Our estate agent only let proceedable buyers view our house anyway
