Just that...

I believe the councils have a massive backlog for searches and I am hoping they might extended, any thoughts about this?

Was wondering this myself, but I have no idea! It benefits the well off so this government might do it after saying there's no money for free school meals Hmm

ChaChaCha2012 · 18/10/2020 17:11

It would be an incredibly crass thing to do, given the state the country is in. On that basis, it wouldn't surprise me if they did.

A relative who works at the Treasury says it will be extended. But the section she works in doesn’t have anything directly to do with stamp duty, so she could be talking nonsense.

Possibly meaningless hearsay aside, though, I still think it probably will be, at least for a few more months.

CoolShoeshine · 18/10/2020 17:14

I don’t think they’ll necessarily extend it but they will need to do some sort of gradual wind down to the stamp duty holiday as there have been so many sales in the last few months the system can’t cope. So many solicitors have a massive backlog and they’re not usually known for going fast under pressure so lots of sales won’t go through before the deadline at this rate. So I think that any sales already in progress will be ok but that new ones after the holiday finishes will probably not benefit from an extension. But who knows?

Mischance · 18/10/2020 17:17

I surely hope so! I have had 3 sales fall through, and searches and solicitors seem to be on a go slow. Now got another buyer, but the whole pack of cards will fall down if I finish up with stamp duty as I will not be able to afford the house I am moving to.

The Estate Agent that valued my house last week certainly thinks so, I want to go on the market after Christmas and he believes it will be extended specifically for those who agree a sale before the original deadline.

EL8888 · 18/10/2020 17:21

I think so

IheartNiles · 18/10/2020 17:39

I suspect so.

HandsFaceSpace · 18/10/2020 18:11

This is encouraging as I am not ready yet and don’t like the feeling of pressure.

Nightmanagerfan · 18/10/2020 18:12

Our mortgage broker seems to think so, based on the huge backlog. I sincerely hope it does as we’ve just accepted an offer and I know our buyers want to take advantage of the holiday

pilates · 18/10/2020 18:17

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was extended
