How much do architects cost?

I am unhappy with my house layout and considering an extension. I wondered roughly how much it would cost for an architect to come out to our house and then produce some drawings?

you can get a few to come round and give you a quote. prepare to be horrified!

haven't got a clue - but I imagine rather expensive - we've just paid £250 (or equivalent thereof) to an Architect in Zimbabwe for drawing up plans for our house........and that is in a country where £20 will pay the bills and buy food/transport for a month !

we were quoted £1000 to draw up some plans to move the kitchen and bathroom, and submit for building control. i was expecting something more in the region of £600 tbh
